Graduate Representatives • One year terms • All graduate students eligible to run • Representatives elected by entire FNAL graduate student population • Choose 5 highest vote receivers as next year’s representatives • This year: • Freya Blekman: D0 • Nathan Goldschmidt: CDF • Mike Kirby: CDF • Heather Ray: CDF • Michel Sorel: BooNE (E898) www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/

What do we do? • Work with lab/government on issues of concern to graduate students • Educate federal government on physical science issues • Organize educational and social events • Provide information for students/post docs who are new to the area • www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa : guide to life, archived classes and lectures, job links (thanks to FNAL office of public affairs and xenomedia) www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/

  4. How is this Accomplished? • Given a budget each year • Other opportunities for funding (URA/lab) • Involvement in committees of UEC - ex: Inreach, Outreach, Quality of Life • Participate in annual UEC trip to Washington, DC www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/

Quality of Life Survey • Results • Health care listing to be provided to housing office/linked to GSA web page, ongoing work with FNAL for better coverage for visiting students and post-docs • Taxi service/pick up service proposal presented to lab • Housing office installing more computers/wireless in dorms www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/

  9. Visa Survey Results • Students from foreign institutions usually here on J1 visa • Problems in some cases for continuing Post-Docs at non-US institutions who work at FNAL • Ongoing collaboration with UEC/FNAL to develop new visa for scientists www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/

  10. New Perspectives • Tomorrow @ 4:30 in WH Atrium: poster contest, UEC reception, prizes awarded for posters • Wednesday and Thursday @ 9:30 in 1 West: talks by students and invited guests • Thursday @ 7 : party in the barn www.fnal.gov/orgs/gsa/
