The Application of Composite Materials in the Construction Industry New Zealand’s Fibre Composites experts are holding four seminars to demonstrate the design and construction capabilities of Composites, and its application to help meet new Earthquake regulations. Its ability to form complex and/or flowing shapes and designs is unsurpassed by any other material. Large complex shapes can be formed at a fraction of the weight of traditional materials such as concrete, thus reducing the structural load on the whole building. Restoration projects are particularly suitable for Composites – Ornate plaster, concrete or brick façades can be recreated, that will be more resilient and stronger, but also lighter and safer. Because of their unique properties such as superior tensile strength, high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion and chemical resistance, as well as extreme flexibility, fibre composites, on their own or in combination with traditional construction materials, have a wide variety of applications in construction from strengthening existing buildings to cladding panels, façades and spandrel panels with many benefits. Other applications, such as piping and tanks for infrastructure needs have already displayed their superiority by withstanding the rigours of the Christchurch earthquakes.
