Group Project Assignment COSU 0300 Prof. Murray
Objectives: • To use collaboration, communication, and conflict resolution skills within a group • To understand a chapter’s worth of material well enough to share with the class • To create an interesting, informative, and creative way of delivering the information to the class • To use time and project management skills
Assignment • Within each group, you will sign up for a day/topic of your choice • You are responsible for the material within that chapter (but feel free to expand and go BEYOND the chapter as well!) • You and your group will determine an interesting and creative way to deliver the information to the class
Suggestions • Power point (must be visually appealing, try to incorporate the “wow factor” – clips, YouTube, animation, visuals, etc.) • Skits • Games • Videos (movie clips post on you tube, create your own mini-movie, etc.) • Newscast/Special News Report • Brochure • Debate • Marketing Campaign • These are just a few. What can YOU come up with? Think outside the box….
Your Presentation Must Include • Everyone taking a role – all must speak and participate in some way • The material presented in an informative, interesting, and creative way (A,V,K) • Must engage the rest of the class in some way (games, interactive notes, q&a, etc.) • Must include a complete set of notes over the chapter • Must include at least one piece of information that goes beyond the chapter (must come from an outside source)

What You Will Turn Into Prof. Murray the day of Presentation • Task chart from project work day (1 per student) • Group Evaluation (1 per student) • Outline of the presentation for Prof. to follow (1 per group) • Copy of any handouts given to students ( 1 per group)
How You Will be Graded Introduction Students introduce themselves Explanation of topic and how you will be presenting it Preparation Understanding of Topic Information Explained Clearly Can answer questions posed to you At least one piece of information related to the chapter (but not from the chapter) incorporated into the presentation (be sure to give credit where credit is due, though!) Materials Readily Available Task Chart turned in prior to presentation day Outline of presentation given to professor the day of presentation Some sort of handout given to students at presentation Have all necessary presentation components ready to go Group members turn in a completed evaluation form
How You Will be Graded (con’t) Preparation (continued) On Time Was everyone on time and ready to go? Was enough time (minimum 45 minutes) spent covering the topic? Creativity Was thought put into how the group presented the material? Was the information interesting and easy to understand? Were students actively engaged in some way during the presentation? Application How well can students take this information and apply it? What difference will this information make? Give practical solutions and examples Conclusion Sum it up for the students. What did they just learn? Why do they need to know this? What was the point of all this?
Warning • If you fail to contribute to your group, your individual grade will be reduced accordingly. • If you are not here the day your group presents, the best grade you can get is a 50% based on your time/effort in preparing for the presentation. • Late presentations can receive no higher than a 70% (refer to course syllabus).
