H-1B Policy and Procedure • Policy has not changed. • Articulation of New Review Process depending on the criteria for H-1B • Bechtel to handle all new requests/petitions • Internal processing fee: $900 • Outside of 4 established scenarios, H-1B Review Board receives the H-1B petition • Demonstration of rationale supporting the exception

Implementation Guidelines • All information is online: http://postdocs.stanford.edu/admin/visas_h1b.html • Advise Your Faculty: • Comparison between J-1 and H-1B • Timing: allow for 4 months • Search process for new postdocs who can be in J-1 status • Required documentation depending on the case

Required Documentation • H-1B Request and Petition Form ALWAYS required, including extension requests • When is a search required: • Cases when J-1 is an option – as determined by Bechtel • Initial request for a new appointee • Initial request for a current Stanford postdoc when a search is the only way to support the petition to the Review Board

Go Live: Late 2010. • AskJane – Frequently-Asked Questions for Administrators and Postdocs • Postdoc Orientation: shorter, not pre-requisite to be appointed in PS or means to obtain ID# • Regular 1-hour sessions on other key topics • New Course: Preparation for Successful Postdoc Experience – Pilot

  11. Major Projects • Submit COMPLETE work to OPA. Complete and accurate paperwork is GOOD work. • Do you meet with your new postdocs upon arrival? • Inform your supervisor of policy and procedural changes and how they may affect your workload and your job responsibilities.
