  3. Mining: for Jobs and Prosperity • $500 million to the province’s economy each year • 6,300 jobs, mostly in rural areas • Nova Scotia’s mining and quarrying industry potential to be a significant creator of jobs and prosperity for Nova Scotians.

  4. Nova Scotia Advantages • Excellent road access • Power distribution system covers province • Skilled highly motivated workforce • Favourable geology

  5. Mining needs certainty • I need to know that when I have rights the land will not become protected • I need to know the financial markets will support work in Nova Scotia • I need to know that if I have mineral rights, I will have land access • I need a consistent, timely environmental approval process

  6. Strong Government Support • Mineral Incentive Program • Support for land access DDV / Atlantic • Registry online • Efforts to get stakeholders together in community engagement protocol

  7. Fuel Tax Fairness • Forestry, fishing, farming do not pay tax • Only province that charges mining and quarrying • NS products disadvantage (aggregates, salt, limestone, gypsum, etc.) • Perceived as lack of support for mining industry • Aggressive, ongoing campaign for the off-highway fuel tax rebate.
