The String Confession of our Sins • Sin:- Falling short of the target. • Transgression:- Going beyond bounds. • Rebellion:- Making decision to do wrong. • Iniquity:- Wickedness and wrongdoing. • Not Knowing:- Being ignorant of what is right. • Godlessness:- Deliberately rejecting God’s will.
Asking For Forgiveness • Extent of our Forgiveness • Legally Forgiven - Eph. 1:7 • Personally Forgiven - Luke. 15:18-20 • Continuously Forgiven - Ps. 103:7-10 • TransformationallyForgiven - Rom. 6:6-7 • Therefore coming to the Lord’s table is a serious business.
Dealing with our sins • Deeds of sin:-Awareness of the String. • Sin of Omission:-Taking inventory of our inactions and then find justifications for them • Sins of the thought and word. • Jesus knows our thoughts - Matt. 9:3-5 • Every foolish thought is sin - Prob. 24:9 • Evil thoughts come from the heart- Matt.15:9 • Guard your heart - Prob. 4:23 • Exception: Thinking of sin in other to confess it.
Sinning with our thoughts • The Past • Bringing up past wrongs and luridly experiencing them. • Comes often through visual wicked actions. • Beware to what you expose your mind. • Satan takes advantage by making us recycle those wicked thoughts of the past.
Thought Sins The Future • Fantasising and planning to do evil e.g. Elicit relationships and criminal activities • Creating an unreal future (Walter Mitty Syndrome. The Present • Planning and enacting sin presently
Thought Management • Sins of the thought are dangerous and devastating. • David’s cry - Ps. 51:10 • Jeremiah’s admission - Jerm.17:9-10 • Peter’s advice - Guard the gate. 1 Pet.5:8-9 • Thought life is the real difference between an obedient and disobedient Christian
How we deal with thought sins • Confess them - 1 Jn.1:8 • We need to be specific when doing so. • Feed on God’s Word - Ps.119:11 • Avoid evil attractions -1Tim. 6:11 • Cultivate the love of God - Ps.119:17. • This was the main difference between Peter and Judas.
Sins in Word (Tongue) • Sinners often claim ownership of their mouths and say what we like. Ps.12:4 & Job 13 • The power and impact of the tongue. James 3; Prob.21:23; Ps.34:13 and 1Pet. 3:10. • Causes more damage than any part of the body. • Need to be careful about things we say. • Our mouths should glorify and honour God. • Our mouths should be source of blessing, healing and encouragement.
Dealing with the sins of the mouth • Confess and repent of its impact. • Fill your mouth with the word of God (memorising programme helps). • Be a person of few words. Prob. 10:19 and Jas. 1:19-20 (This does not apply to preaching). • Ask God The Spirit how to help you daily to use your tongue - Ps.19:14 & Ps.71:14-16,23-24.
