Pathway curation in Reactome: Downloading and setting up the Curator Tool software This tutorial takes you through the steps of downloading the Curator Tool software, installing it on your local machine, setting options so that your local tool installation can communicate with the central Reactome database, and creating a “person” instance that will identify the material you create and associate it with a project. You will also see how to import an existing instance from the central database into a local project and how to create a simple instance locally. Finally, you will see how to ensure that your software is using a current version of the database schema.
Install the Curator Tool software. • Un-compress the downloaded file. • For a Windows machine, simply move the entire uncompressed folder into C:\Program Files ! • You can, if you wish, open the folder, find the file ReactomeCuratorTool.exe, create a shortcut to it, and put that shortcut someplace convenient like the desktop of your machine. • When the time comes to uninstall the software (e.g., a new version is available), simply delete the old folder and its shortcut. Download and install the new version as described above.
Identify yourself and your project with a “person” instance: create an identity

Browse the central database to see what’s there – find an existing affiliation instance to use with your new “person” instance.
Check out that instance from the central db into your local project.
Ensure that your newly installed curator tool program has a current version of the Reactome database schema associated with it.
