EUREF-IP Streaming GNSS data over the Internet using NTRIP 1.0 Denise Dettmering Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG)Frankfurt, GermanyCGSIC 45th Prague, Czech Republic, March 14-15, 2005
Content • EUREF-IP Pilot Project • Ntrip 1.0 • Ntrip data streams • EUREF-IP Ntrip Broadcaster • Ntrip DGPS Professional Service Concept
EUREF-IP Pilot Project • real-time GNSS infrastructure on the Internet • selected EPN stations • disseminate RTCM corrections for differential positioning and navigation purposes • various other applications, like real-time orbit determination and atmospheric parameter estimation • Pilot Project: EUREF-IP
NTRIP 1.0 • Networked Transport of RTCM via Internet Protocol • RTCM recommended standard • for streaming GNSS data over the Internet • transmission via TCP/IP • based on HTTP communication • HTTP port 80 for all communications (supported by most firewalls) • different data formats (RTCM/Raw measurement/...) • Internet Radio Technology Developed by RTCM SC-104 Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services Special Committee on Differential Global Navigation Satellite Systems
Caster 50...100 x max 5 kbit/s 1000... x max 5 kbit/s NTRIP system components Server Client • no direct communication between provider and user • only one „real“ Internet Server (Caster) • Caster works as data splitter: mass-usage possible
Ntrip data streams 03/Mar/2005: 654 real-time data streams, from: 27 NtripCaster 30 countries

Summary • Streaming GNSS data over Internet and cellular phone networks has proofed working • No significant degradation of performance compared to usage of other transportation media • Ntrip may disseminate all data streams with bitrates between 50 and 500 bytes/sec (different data formats) • RTCM committee has accepted Ntrip as standard for packet based communication • Multiple services already established, e.g. EUREF-IP • Various Ntrip clients and Ntrip servers are available
