They were so poor that they only ate a meal of rice twice a day.
More than 800 million people go to bed hungry every day...300 million are children. • More than one billion people still use unsafe sources of drinking water.
In addition, they were too poor to send their two children to school.
Around the world, a total of 114 million children do not get even a basic education. • In some deeply impoverished nations less than half of the children are in primary school and under 20 percent go to secondary school.
Parbati’s husband pulled a rickshaw as their only source of income — earning less than $1 a day.
Over 1/6 of humanity lives in extreme poverty or on less than $1/day. • Most living in extreme poverty are unable to engage in meaningful and sustainable income generating activities.
Over 1.5 million people worldwide die of TB each year. • Each year, approximately 300 to 500 million people are infected with malaria. Approximately three million people die as a result. • Everyday HIV/AIDS kills 6,000 people.
As a result, Parbati & her family could only eat a meal of rice once a day.
Bandhan found Parbati and she joined their Chartering into Unventured Frontiers - Targetingthe Hardcore Poor (CUF-THP) program.
Bandhan helped Parbati’s husband obtain the necessary care to recover from his TB.
Bandhan provided Parbati with Tupperware and taught her how to sell it.
With their extra income Parbati’s husband purchased a new rickshaw.
Parbati now takes out microfinance loans to keep her micro-business going.
