The Racing Charter Objectives • To provide a framework for everyone to enjoy the sport of sailboat racing in whatever capacity and to whatever level the individual desires • To ensure that the sport of sailboat racing welcomes people and treats them equally • To ensure those who experience sailboat racing are encouraged to continue

  4. How can we help to make racing more fun • Club Race Officials training • Advice on running successful Open Meetings, correct Sailing Instructions • Good start lines and courses • Experienced Protest Committee members • Rules Advisors and Mediators • Are we meeting the RYA Charter Objectives • Do we have Happy Sailing Customers

  5. Race Officer Scheme Club Race Officer A 1 day club organised course run to a basic RYA syllabus. Delivered using a power point presentation with emphasis on correct visual and sound signals Regional Race Management Coordinators

  6. Race Officer Scheme Regional Race Officer A Regional Race Officer seminar (2 days), delivered using a power point presentation followed by a written multi-choice question test. Race Officer experience is required with attendance at a Regional or National Race Management Conference. National Race Officer Similar to RRO but at least 2 years more experience International Race Officer An ISAF qualification with an international seminar and test and more experience.

  7. Judge Scheme Aimed at protest committee members Nationally organised courses Regional Judge National Judge A 2 day seminar with emphasis on protest procedures, fact finding and decision making. Advisory and mediation hearings, rather than full protest hearings. Rule 42. Multichoice test and protest hearing test. Experience on protest committees

  8. Umpire Scheme Aimed at on the water umpires mainly in Team Racing and Match Racing Nationally organised courses Regional Umpires National Umpires A 2 day seminar with emphasis on boat on boat rules scenarios and umpiring procedures. Multichoice test. On the water assessment and experience.
