Evaluation of national ICT-research, 2002: • “There is very little, if any, organized education program offered as part of the PhD education, and students are not admitted to formally organized schools or programs.” • “One way to improve the situation would be to allocate special funds to support Research Schools promoting PhD education in selected areas” Evaluation of Simula, 2004: • Low ratio between PhD students and senior staff • The Evaluation Committee recommends that the production of PhD candidates should be doubled • Simula should raise its postgraduate student targets and seek additional resources for this purpose
Dimensions of the Simula School [1]According to the Research Council of Norway the cost is 0,6 og 0,7 mnok for PhD and post doc respectively. The cost for senior staff is related to average salary for professors at Ifi, University of Oslo.
Content of the Simula School Research trainee: • 6 months at Simula • 6 months with an industrial partner PhD candidate: • Qualification: Master degree and one year as a trainee • Research experience from international partner, at least 3 months • 3 supervisors: From Simula and 2 partners • The degree will be awarded by the University of Oslo, and the university’s regulations will apply in full Posdoc candidate: • Qualifying for academic position, Research management, mentor program
