What is a Windstorm? A windstorm is a really strong wind able to cause a little amount damage to trees or buildings and sometimes it comes accompanied with some type of precipitation. Many people imagine that windstorms can happen only over land, but they are wrong; they can also happen over water. Did you know that the speed of a windstorm would normally exceed 55km or 34 miles per hour?!? Tornadoes and tropical cyclones are similar in some ways to the windstorm, since they also produce wind damage, but they are classified separately. There are three different types of windstorms, and the three of them have affected people´s lives in many ways; by taking away their houses and cities by destroying them, and causing them injuries and sometimes even death. Also, they have in some cases cut the electricity an water supply, which has affected the people by making them very thirsty, and hungry since they couldn´t cook without electricity.
Microbursts The microburst is on of the three different types of windstorms. It is basically a small but very intense type of downdraft. They can affect an area of up to 4 km wide. They would usually last about ten minutes or less. Many of the Microbursts can be associated with thunderstorms. They can go up to 280 km per hour.
Dust Devils Dust Devils are another type of windstorm. They are small rotating winds not associated with a thunder storm. At first, they can´t be visible until they collect dust or debris. This type of windstormform when the air gets heated by a hot surface during hot weather. The most probable place where you can find Dust Devils, are in arid or semiarid regions.
Dust storms And finally, The dust storms are uncommon conditions where strong winds carry dust over a large area. They occur when there are drought conditions in a place, like for example, there could be sandstorms in desert areas.
