Educational Management For Entrance examinations at prestigious institutes By NitinOke
There are three parts of my lecture Need of lecture The real problem Solutions
What are we planning for? • To get entry to • Engineering: IIT, NIT, BITS, State Colleges • Medical: AIIMS, CMC,Govt. colleges, MGIMS, Private • Pure Sciences: ISER, ISI, CCM, ISAT • Commerce: Shri Ram COC, St.Xaviers’ Kolkata, NarseeMonjee Mumbai, • Arts based courses: Law, Media, Fine arts, • Civil services: IAS, IPS, UPSC, MPSC
Why are we planning? • Due to population growth there is increase in competition. • Due to media and awareness the rights of reservations are underlined. • As the profession of parents is different than choice of children the confusion exists. • We need to be with flow.
The problems are - - - • Overburden and excessive help, results in reduction in EQ • IQ and EQ key to success. • IQ difficult to change but EQ certainly can and we try to reduce it by providing everything.
The problems are - - - • Premature preparation of the goal • Neglecting bio, social science, English • Neglecting mathematics, Social sciences
The problems are - - - • Mostly the goal is set by parents • Wish to bring the incomplete dreams in reality • Considering the carrier of child as status symbol
The problems are - - - • Use of TV and audio visual aids reduce the imagination power (certainly helps imagination) • Reading and model making increase imagination
The problems are - - - • But students don’t listen if you say that • Read books • Don’t see TV • Don’t play video games
So what to do? • I expect some changes in • Parents attitude • Change in “parents and students” interaction • Way of study of student • Appear for different examinations • Availability of books for students • Availability of time for students
Expected changes in Parents attitude • Give at least 30 minutes to your ward every day without receiving any phone call, without seeing TV, giving this time entirely to ward – asking what he did today so that he can recall “the day” – this will give him strong ability to remember – the details will be discussed in next slide related to “ How we forget”
This is how we forget 100% 50% 25% 12.5% 1D 1W 1M
This is how we can improve 100% 50% 25% 12.5% 1D 1W 1M

This is how we can improve 100% 50% 25% 12.5% 1D 1W 1M
Expected changes in Parent –student interaction • The interaction is concern with his • rank – and rank of others during school days • fees during college days • Change it to ask about • Understanding • Difficulties ( encourage to have a difficulty book)
Expected changes in Parent –student interaction • Create a fault book : The faults committed and method to rectify them, please note the difference between mistake and fault. • Keep track of his/her friends and their attitude please note that a good ranker may have wrong attitude and may turn out to be a bad friend.
Expected changes in Way of study of student • Don’t use the pattern • prepare on Saturday • appear on Sunday • forget on Monday • Prepare the subject and not for examination (Change in pattern till VIII ) • Read the text book in details including mathematics
Expected changes in Way of study of student • Prepare difficulty book during study • Don’t use guide or readymade answers (till board examination at least.) • Try to do study by project, for example • List 50 things around you which convert one form of energy into other. • Prepare map of your local area • Have audit of energy use at your home • Collect samples of flowers, leaves, seeds and classify them • In short, don’t just look around, but“ observe”
Appear for different examinations • To verify the abilities of study appear for the examinations listed • The exams can be classified by subjects as • General talent search exam (NTSE) • Science talent search exam ( NSEJS, SSTSE, NSTSE, NSO, SLSTSE, IOS) • Mathematics talent search exam (RMO, IMO, IOM)
Appear for different examinations • English talent search exam (IOEL, IEO) • Informatics or computer talent search exam (NCO, UCO, ZIO, IIO)
Availability of books for students • Books increase imagination of reader • Books teaches us to look at same thing in different views, as it can be used for many times. • It increases knowledge as well as ability to express. • While searching for “ONE” thing reader gets information about many things • The way of cultivating the liking for reading is “ leave it in between”
Availability of time for students • The situation is as student is • Not expected to use guide • Not expected to use Google • expected to read books • expected to attend school • expected to do projects • expected to appear exams • For preparation he must join tuitions • and – and – and – and – and – and
Availability of time for students • To do all these things how to manage time
Splitting the events • It is always better to split the events in to four types as— Urgent and important Non urgent and important Urgent and non important Non urgent and non important
Evaluation of events Urgent and important • These events are responsible for increasing stress • Rushing to doctor after illness, • realization of vehicle problem just before going, • not getting rickshaw and getting late, • natural calls in unfavorable conditions, • to prepare just before examination • We can not avoid these events but due to their urgency they may get spoiled. • Try to foresitethese events and avoid them. Urgent and important Non urgent and important Urgent and non important Non urgent and non important
Evaluation of the events Urgent and non important • We do few a things which are non important but urgent. • Receiving a phone call while studying • To watch a TV programme suggested by a friend • To read a SMS • Doing some work told by senior like prepare tea or guide the guest • Going with friends for a movie or outing • Make up--- • Drawing figures in class room which are in books • These events create more psychological pressure after completion as we keep on thinking why we did this? Non urgent and important Urgent and non important Non urgent and non important
Evaluation of the events Non urgent and non important • These events consume our maximum time. We lose this time unknowingly. • Playing computer games • Watching TV • Internet chat • Mobile talk • Looking into mirror observing oneself • Day dreaming • Talking with friend at gate • Lying on bed even if not feeling sleepy day & night • Sorting old note books, experimenting on oneself • Indirect cause of stress. Non urgent and important Non urgent and non important
Evaluation of the events Non urgent and important • Events where we seek excuses and create problems • Study at beginning of year • Increase in pending work like, formulae, numerical problems, • Doing some physical exercise, • Creating good habits • Wear and tear of vehicle • Postponement of almost every work • Events where time can be saved with proper planning Non urgent and important
Biggest problems in education • Withdrawal of responsibilities • Importance of TV • Mobile use • Video games
