  3. Commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary war. After the war he became the first President of the United States of America. George Washington

The first battle of the American Revolution in April 1775. “ The shot heard ‘round the world” • ***The British were on their way to Concord because they heard the colonists were storing weapons there. As they passed through Lexington a shot was fired. This is known as “The shot heard ‘round the world”. No one knows who fired the shot. *** The Colonists knew they were on the way because of Paul Revere and his famous warning “The British are coming!” The weapons were saved, the British retreated and American militia men shot at the red coats the whole way home. Lexington and Concord

George Washington was in charge; the soldiers suffered from lack of supplies, sickness, and the cold. ***Many men deserted the army, but Washington was able to build the morale of the of the rest and convince them to stay.
