  2. Neptune's Name • Neptune was named after the roman god of water • The greek's god of water was called Poseidon

  3. Into the Solar System and Orbit! • 8th planet from the sun • Neptune is about 2.8 billion miles away from the sun (84,651 km) • It takes about 60,190 earth days for Neptune to orbit around the sun • Neptune is the second furthest planet from the sun

  4. Rotation on Neptune's Axis and Size of Neptune • It takes about 16 earth hours and 17 earth minutes for Neptune do 1 rotation on it's axis • The mass of Neptune is about 17 times more than earth • The volume of Neptune is about 57 times more than earth • Neptune is the smallest of all four gas giants

  5. Gravity on Neptune If you are 70 pounds on earth you would weigh about 78.5 pounds on Neptune. So if you were 100 pounds you would be about 108.5 on Neptune. There is about a 8.5 pound gain.

  6. Neptune's Atmosphere • Made up of hydrogen, helium and methane • There are large white clouds that move rather quickly in Neptune's atmosphere

  7. Moon's and Rings Neptune has thirteen moons, Triton was the first moon that was discovered by Willam Lassell in 1846, 17 days after Neptune was discovered. The other moons are Despina, Galatea, Halimede, Laomedeia, Larissa, Naiad, Nereid, Neso, Proteus, Psamathe, Sao and Thalassa. These moons are very small. Neptune has six rings, there are areas of thickness around the rings. These rings are more irregular than the rings of other planets.

  8. Temperature • Temperatures can reach to -184°C or -370°F but weather on Neptune can reach lower temperatures • This weather is freezing compared to earth!

  9. Composition and Appearance • Neptune is the smallest Gas Giant in our solar system • The inside of Neptune is made of water, liquid hydrogen and a rocky core • Neptune looks like a blue planet with few thin white clouds

  10. How a Human would Fare on Neptune If a human went to Neptune they would freeze to death. Neptune has cold temperatures because it is so far away from the sun, humans can not withstand temperatures like Neptune's.

  11. Something Special Did you know that Neptune is a very windy place? Winds near "The Great Dark spot" can reach 1200 miles per hour! The "Great Dark spot" is a giant storm like the one on Jupiter. This storm appears to be a dark oval shape on the surface of the planet.

  12. Discovery Neptune was discovered by Johann Galle and Heinrich D'Arrest in 1846. And remember, if you want to be cold and literally blown away come to Neptune!
