  1. The Princess and the Evil Queen Manning Unger

  2. Once upon a time there was a king who loved his daughter more than anything else in the world, not even all his mounds of gold!

  3. One day he said to his wife, “The only person I’m going to let near me is my daughter. So his wife and he divorced. It was very sad, but who had ever heard of a kingdom without a king and a queen? So, he picked a new wife. But he did not know she was really a witch.

  4. Once the wedding was over, the queen went upstairs. Now, don’t forget this part because it is very important. The queen turned the daughter in to a frog. When she woke up, she saw that she was a frog.

  5. “I hope my dad still loves me,” she thought. Then she started hopping down the stairs, hoping that the king would still love her. But, it ended up that he didn’t!

  6. He said, “I’m not letting a frog in my palace! Go to the pond!” But he didn’t realize that she was actually his daughter. So, she decided to spend one night at the pond. But, she didn’t have much fun being a frog at the pond then being a human at the pond. That morning, she went immediately to the forest. There she met a bluebird, a pelican, and a woodpecker that said they would help her.

  7. When she arrived at the queen’s old house, they all appeared. The blue bird laid an egg, but it was too big for here to pick. Then, the pelican picked the egg up and the woodpecker hatched it. It was the only sword that could strike the queen down. She took one strike, and the princess broke the spell. The king then appeared, and they lived happily ever after.
