Noliac Group Technology, Products and Applications Noliac is specialized in a high degree of customization
Piezoelectric Actuator Drive -PAD • PAD – Piezoelectric Actuator Drive • Developed by Siemens 2000 - 2008 • A partner needed for commercialisation • Noliac A/S acquired the PAD technology from Siemens AG in 2010 • Patents • Fully equipped test laboratories • PAD prototypes and demonstrators • Training of engineers • Motor currently being developed for Siemens
Piezoelectric Actuator Drive -PAD The displacement is generated by the piezo components • Signals with 90° phase
PAD – Reduced Complexity PAD System Servo-controlled System Position sensor PAD drive Torque sensor PAD electronics E-Brake PAD motion control ... Gearbox CAN, Profi-Bus, ... E-Motor Electronics Motion control ... CAN, Profi-Bus, ...
PAD - Characteristics • Positioning accuracy and repeatability (< 2 arcseconds) without encoders/decoders • No gearbox required / no backlash • No overshooting Precision • High acceleration and deceleration without e-brake (low inertia) • Slow and precise motion possible (0 to 60 rpm) • Revolution independent of load Dynamics • Smart load sensing without torque sensors • High torque without gearbox / no backlash (typ. 6,5 Nm) • Overload protection Torque / load sensing • Scalability in terms of power, relative speed and torque • Synchronization of multiple PADs possible Scalability • No power consumption when holding a load • Function not affected by strong magnetic fields or radiation • No magnetic stray fields Others
Special conditions of relevance in relation to ITER: • High temperature (up to200°C) : High temperature is generally not a problem. Both the housing and the actuators should be able to cope with high temperature, and the wiring can be insulated. • Vacuum: PAD should be capable of withstanding Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) up to 10^3 Pa. • Magnetic field: PAD has so far been successfully tested at 1,5T, but should be able to cope with a stronger magnetic field (5-8T). • Radiations: Generally not a problem. The resistance will depend on the materials selected for the PAD unit.
