Newly qualified nurses How many left in the first year 2011 cohort, 8 NQN joined. All remained in department for at least 1 year 2012 cohort, 4 NQN joined. All still employed 2013 cohort, 1 NQN joined, left due to relocation to Surrey Of 2011 cohort 5 have since left the service. 1 to hospice 1 to Bristol (due to family) 1 returned to work on IoW 1 returned to Leeds 1 returned to Plymouth- Where did they go all moved to oncology posts in other Trusts (acute or palliative) Page 2
Complaints • The Oncology service received 23 complaints last year (April 2012-March 2013) • Of these • 2 related to radiotherapy • 8 to outpatients • Remainder related to ward areas • The Trust as a whole received 531, oncology service complaints comprised 4.3% of these.
Process improvements and LEAN • Service reviews and process mapping have been undertaken on several occasions in past 4 years • Ongoing process of service development has led to • Acute oncology service • Clinic rationalisation to see same tumour site patients on same day • Extended hours in HODU • Further work ongoing to consider • Near patient blood testing • Improved pharmacy support to HODU • Nurse led assessment and clinics • Moving non chemotherapy service delivery • Care closer to home
