English: Monday, April 21, 2014 Handouts: * Display Spreads for Academic Fair Homework:* Have a wonderful evening! Assignments due: * None
Lesson Goal: Finish sharing the writing pieces AND illustrations you have chosen to a display for the upcoming Academic Fair. Outcomes: Be able to . . . Discuss what happens at the Academic Fair. Present to the class your writing piece and illustration. Evaluate each student to determine the best presentations.
Starter #1: Again today we will return everyone’s display spread for the Academic Fair. Note the color code: Lit 6 – 1 Blue folders (Stein’s homeroom) Lit 6 – 2 Purple folders (Donohue’s homeroom) Lit 6 – 3 Red folders (Reid’s homeroom) Writing Piece Illustration
Starter #2: Todaystudents will finish sharing their best writing piece and Illustration. We will also evaluate the quality of both your creative endeavors. After you hear each person read, examine the illustration and ask yourself: * Does this represent quality work? Would you describe it as “excellent”? * Does this represent great effort and creativity? How much time went into this? * Is this illustration appropriate for its particular writing piece? * Were “borrowed” graphics (clip art or downloads) used in a collage? Take out the sheet of paper you created last week. You will evaluate each person for their writing AND illustration. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 representing “Outstanding,” how would you rate their overall presentation, the writing AND illustration combined? [Keep in mind the questions listed above.]
Starter #2: As students finish presenting their creative works, we will put their creative expression on the screen. Note that we will present in alphabetical order by last name, one homeroom at a time. When we are all done evaluating, we will show all the slides one at a time and then vote on the entire sixth grade. Everyone gets to vote for one person in Lit 6-1, one person in Lit 6-2 and one in Lit 6-3. We will select first, second, and third place winners for each homeroom.
