  2. Who are we? – 5th year PBIS • 730 Total Student Enrollment • 12% Special Education • 40% FARMS Ethnicity • 56% African American • 28% Caucasian • 10% Hispanic

  3. Today’s Agenda • Behavior Matrix • PBIS Committee / Staff Development • Data Analysis • Discipline Procedures • Student Incentives/Rewards • Questions/Comments

  4. Behavior Matrix Desired behaviors for different areas in the school building

PBIS Committee • Teacher from each team, administrator, school psychologist , & guidance counselor • Beginning of year: Overview to staff; Develop lessons to take place during Advisory • Faculty PBIS binders with information about our program • Pre-made bulldog bucks for teachers • Set up Calendar of Events for the year (school-wide, by grade/teams) with criteria for attendance

  6. Data Analysis • PBIS Committee • review SWIS data monthly: type of behavior, time of day, location in the building • Entire Staff • Referral/SWIS data shared at monthly staff meetings • Target “critical times” with intervention and/or specific incentives

  7. Triangle of Student Referrals Aug.-Oct.’07 • Red Zone • Students with 6 or more referrals Yellow Zone – Target Group • Intensive, individual interventions • Students with 2-5 referrals (at risk) • Targeted group interventions Green Zone • Want to push to the green Students with 0-1 referrals

  8. Discipline Procedures • Minor incident reports (yellow slips) • Frequent revision of office vs. classroom managed behaviors to ensure consistency • Developing a school-wide discipline “flow chart” • Give teachers a guideline • Consistent discipline school-wide

Student Incentives/Rewards • Bulldog Bucks • “Buy in” to activities • Weekly drawings school-wide (cafeteria) or by grade/teams • Monthly School Wide Incentives • Planned beginning of school year • Consistent Criteria - No Discipline Referral (for the month) 25 Bulldog Bucks • Team or Grade Level Planned Incentives

  10. Some of Our Favorite Incentives • Holiday Bazaar • Ice Cream Social • Movie and Popcorn • Bingo • Faculty vs. Student Competitions • Field Day • Out-of-Uniform Days • Faculty Incentives too!

Looking Ahead for ’07-’08… • Have students play a bigger role! • Student PBIS Committee – • Target “yellow zone” students to be part of a student committee • Act out appropriate behaviors on our morning news show • Advertising events/incentives to fellow students • Looking for new ideas- need to keep things “fresh” for students/faculty
