Goals of the LFI program? • The goal of French immersion programs is to provide youth with the opportunity to become functionally bilingual, to be able to work in both official languages and to appreciate cultures other than their own. • Cultural component Consultant
What is LFI • Teaching and learning happens in French. • Similar outcomes to the English program in Math, Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts. • In PEI, LFI begins in Grade 7 • Grade 7 -8 (late) 80% or 240 minutes/2160 hrs • Grade 9 (late) 50% or 150 minutes/1350 hrs • Grade 10-12 25% or 75 minutes/675 hrs Consultant
