Caves • Have you ever wondered how caves are formed? There are many types of caves including erosion caves, solution caves, and volcanic caves!
Types of caves • Erosion caves are formed by forces of erosion . Solution caves are formed when water dissolves rock. Volcanic caves are formed by volcanic rock.
Stalactites and stalagmites Stalagmites grow from the caves ground. Stalactites grow down from the caves ceiling. Stalactites are formed when water drips down from the caves ceiling, it starts at the top of a stalactite and forms a cone, and, ta-da! A stalactite is formed! Now , you’re probably wondering how a stalagmite is formed. A stalagmite is formed when water drips down from a stalactite and onto the floor and builds a stalagmite.
Zones • All caves have zones, there are 3 zones, the entrance zone, the twilight zone, and the dark zone. Remember, there are many different types of caves.
