What is open source software? • Open Source software is a program where the source code is available to the public for modification of design free of charge.
Why free?? • Open Source software is free of charge because it will produce a more “bug-free” product for everyone to use. They are not worried about the named ownership or financial gain.
Advantages • FREE! • Right to redistribute modifications and improvements • Availability • Use software in any way • Lesser hardware costs
Disadvantages • Information overload • Alert Fatigue • Sometimes unreliable • No qualified support available • No guarantee of regular updates…become outdated quickly
