IMPORTANT THINGS • Students have the name tags with them • No slippers , • No round collar t shirt, • Observe the 15 Minutes rule, • Explain the 80% attendance rule, • No laptop for email or website playing in lectures. • Display the course outline, the goals and benefits of the course. • Explain the marking scheme and the breakdown of assessments • for the module.

  5. 15 MINUTES RULES • Come to class before 2.15pm • Cannot enter class starting 2.16am (unless • have solid reason) • If you come late and still want to enter • the class and want to learn, ask • permission from the management.

  6. 80 % ATTENDANCE RULES • We have 2.5 hour class per week. • We have total 14 lectures. • Who fail 80% attendance is not allow to take • your midterm test. • If you skip more than 7.5 hour classes • (without excuse) • YOU WILL BE BARRED FROM • THE MIDTERM EXAM

  7. FREE MARKS WILL BE GIVEN UPON YOUR ATTENDANCE 5% FREE MARKS FOR 100% ATTENDANCE THIS 5% FREE MARKS WILL DETERMINE EITHER A OR A- EITHER D OR E.

  8. Method of Evaluation • Attendance: 5% • Test: - Public Speaking : 10 % - Midterm Test : 10 % * Absent one of these tests will be considered 0% • Assignment @ Project: 15% • Final Exam: 60%

COURSE OBJECTIVE & OUTCOME • Overview information on security threats and risks. • Ensure the safety of aviation industry • Overcome any possible risks or threats. • Basic knowledge of law in aviation safety and security. • Roles as enforcement on ensuring the safety in aviation. • Procedure, tools and equipment related to safety.

INTRODUCTION • In aviation industry, the only thing that matter is SAFETY. • While the elimination of accidents (and serious incidents) would be desirable, a 100% safety rate is an unachievable goal. Failures and errors will occur, in spite of the best efforts to avoid them. • No human activity or human-made system can be guaranteed to be absolutely safe, i.e free from risk. Safety is a relative notion whereby inherent risks are acceptable in a “safe” system.

  18. What are the possible threats in aviation? • TERRORISM • HIJACKING • BOMBING • Foreign Object Damage (FOD) • Bird striking • Accident • Fuel spilling • Dangerous things by passenger • Fraud

SAFETY & SECURITY • Safetyis a condition, state or situation in which a person feel safe and free from any threat or danger. • Meanwhile, security is a procedure or action taken to ensure safety of a person. • Example: You’ll feel safe in a car when you lock your doors. Locking your doors means that you take security measures.

  21. You’ll feel safe in your house during night by locking doors. Locking doors is the action taken to avoid your house from being entered by unknown people. • When you walk alone, you can be attack by unknown person. As a way to overcome this threat, you never walk alone and ask somebody to company you. Example of SUPER RICH MAN.

CONCLUSION • Safety is the STATE in which the RISK OF HARMto persons or of property damage IS REDUCED TO, and MAINTAINED AT OR BELOW, AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL through a continuing process of hazard identification and risk management. • The PROCESS of hazard identification and risk management is a SECURITY measurement.

  23. Aviation Security exists to prevent criminal activity on aircraft and in airport. • Criminal activity includes acts such as hijacking (air piracy), damaging or destroying aircraft and nearby areas with bombs, and assaulting passengers and aviation employees.

  24. On September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four U.S. airliners and crashed three of them into buildings and one into the ground, causing the death of thousands. • This unprecedented attack resulted in an immediate and drastic heightening of air transportation security.

WHY DO WE NEEDSAFETY & SECUTITY IN AVIATION • Provide safety so that people will feel comfortable and secure. • Attract more people to use airlines. • Prevent any danger or harm to people (passenger). • Smoothen the airport system. • Meet requirement from International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO – Annex 17. • Avoid illegal things. (see video)

  26. GROUP DISCUSSION: ROLE PLAY • 5 GROUP MEMBERS • 2/3 of you will be tourists from any country. • 2 of you will the enforcement personnels. • 1 of you will be the Airport manager.

  27. Situation: • Tourists bring things that could create possible threat to other visitors. (but at the same time they are so innocent and don’t know anything about it). • They were caught by the enforcement officers and fought with them claiming that they are innocent. • The officers bring them to the manager. • Then manager explain about the aviation safety and security. • Are the tourists guilty of bringing dangerous goods? Or are they guilty? • Try to make it as interesting as you can. • It is not necessarily must a serious play. • Make it fun, crazy and enjoyable but at the same time you learn something.
