OVERVIEW • ITU, NBTC (Thailand), and with support from the Australian Government jointly proposed a multi-partnerships project aimed at building capacity of telecentres and relevant stakeholders implementing telecentre projects • Development of necessary and useful ICT applications for operating, managing, and maintaining a network of telecentres • Beneficiaries are the Member States and especially people living in rural communities • The initiative to be launched at the Connect Asia-Pacific Summit, 18 November 2013, Bangkok, Thailand

OBJECTIVES • Develop ICT applications for telecentre operations and management, and for telecentre network management system; • Develop a web portal and repository of ICT resources useful for telecentres including ICT applications and contents; • Establish a framework for monitoring and evaluating performance of telecentres operations in an effective manner • Build institutional and human capacity in managing telecentre projects through various means such as guidelines, toolkits, training, etc. • Help telecentres run in a more sustainable manner • Promote international coordination and cooperation as well as knowledge sharing • Promote local SMEs and local knowledge through the use of ICTs

EXPECTED OUTPUTS • ICT applications for telecentre operations and management of networks of telecentres; • Web portal/repository for ICT applications and contents; • Monitoring and Evaluation framework for telecentre projects • Publications e.g. case studies, guidelines, toolkits for managing telecentre projects • Capacity building programme e.g. training, workshops, etc. • A platform for international coordination and cooperation as well as knowledge sharing

KEY ACTIVITIES & TIMELINE • Oct 2013: Call for “Expressions of Interest” • 18 Nov 2013: Announcement of partnerships Sign an agreement • 2014-2015: • Development of ICT applications • Development of a web portal • Organising a regional/sub-regional seminar • Conducting studies and training • Expert assistance to countries
