Hektoen Agar (continued) • Bile salts inhibit G+ growth • Bromthymol blue and acid fuchsin are added as color indicators.
Results • Salmomnella, Shigella, and Proteus do not ferment any sugars and produce blue-green colonies • Enteric such as Enterobacter, Escherichia, or Klebsiella produce acid from sugar fermentation and produce yellow to salmon pink colonies • Proteus and Salmonella produce H2S
