Need for Pediatric ARV Program in Vietnam • 2,000 pediatric cases identified • Lack of available technical assistance • Lack of local capacity • Procurement issues • A goal to treat 1,000 children by Dec 2007
The Response • Coordinated approach, led by VAAC • Care and Treatment Committee • VAAC, CDC, SCMS and CHAI • Joint quantification/procurement plan • Joint Technical Assistance (TA) plan • Drug Management Information System (DMIS)

Results – Site Expansion • There are 18 pediatric clinics in 6 PEPFAR provinces by Dec 2007 • There are also 10 pediatric clinics at 10 non focused provinces.
Lessons Learned • Coordinated donors met • Funding • Quantification / Procurement • Coordinated services for pediatric • Capacity building • Technical Assistance • Training for health workers • Coordinated throughout country to carry out ART implementation at pediatric clinics
Implementation Insights • Improving coordination among different organizations was the biggest solution • Better to have a formal written plan and agreement, with roles and responsibilities Thank You!
