Where to start • Know your audience especially their pocketbook • Look for a publisher who will work with you • Spend as little out of pocket as possible • Read the contract carefully-don’t trust anyone • Do self promotion • Don’t expect to be a millionaire unless you are writing smut novels • Document all sites and sources utilized

  3. Illustrations • For fiction-locate a young talented artist who will not cost you an arm and/or leg-great publicity for both of you • For nonfiction-check out museums and similar sites where the costs will be minimal…go to the original family for permission as a last resort.
