5 GHz Bands A and BThe story so far…. • The original 5 GHz Consultation ran from October 1999 to January 2000 • Conference June 2000 • 5 GHz Advisory Group reported February 2001 • “Final Stage” Consultation ran from December 2001 until February 2002 • IR 2006 published October 2002 • Consultation on draft SI to exempt Bands A and B ended October 2002 3

The interim arrangement • For equipment without full DFS/TPC capability • Applies to Band A only • For indoor use only • Reduce the power level • If no TPC or full DFS max power of 60 mW • Where only TPC max power level of 120 mW • All equipment must implement a random access mechanism of operating on all 8 carriers 6
Important definitions • DFS-Equipment operating in these bands must implement a random channel access mechanism capable of operating on all the carrier frequencies within 330 MHz of the spectrum in Bands A and B. Shall prevent co-channel operation in the presence of radar signals • TPC-shall be employed to ensure a mitigation factor of at least 3 dB on the average output power of the network 7
