Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were two young members of feuding families living in Verona, Italy.
The two young people meet at a masque held by Juliet’s father Lord Capulet, after Romeo sneaks into the party. The two instantly fall in love, not realizing that they are members of feuding families.
Romeo sneaks to Juliet’s balcony and, in the most famous scene in the play, the two promise to love each other forever, despite what their families may think.
After their wedding, Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin Tybalt in revenge, after Tybalt kills his best friend Mercutio. As a punishment, Romeo is banished from Verona.
Juliet learns that her father plans for her to marry a man named Paris. Desperate, she takes a potion to fake her death, so that she can escape to be with Romeo. Romeo mistakenly hears that she is dead and returns to her tomb and kills himself. Juliet awakens just as he dies, and stabs herself so that they can be together forever.
