Full Text A&I e-print Web Citations Why OpenURL? • Limitations of previous linking solutions • Information providers control the links • Links are dependent on vendor agreements • Links are not sensitive to user’s context (the “appropriate copy” problem) • High maintenance of proprietary solutions • Expensive collection not used optimally • Focus on full text links only

SFX and MetaLib deal with electronic resources for the sake of linking and searching. A new product from Ex Libris, Verde, an electronic resource management system, complements the business aspects and enables collection management decision-making.
What is an e-resource management system? “A system that supports management of the information and workflows necessary to efficiently select, evaluate, acquire, maintain, renew/cancel and provide informed access to e-resources in accordance with their business and license terms.” Ivy Anderson (Harvard University Library) and Ellen Duranceau (MIT Libraries) DLF Electronic Resource Management Initiative Final report: http://www.diglib.org/pubs/dlfermi0408/
