Meeting Purpose • Understand the evaluation process and criteria. • Understand how to apply the criteria. • Meet other team members and choose a team leader. • Receive applications for evaluation. • Plan team review methodology & meetings.
Evaluation…The Basics • Must have two reviewers per nomination. • Scoring sheets for every nomination, by award category. • Points per category. • Rating scale from 1-5 and 1-10. • Comments are imperative! • Research, verification and compliance checking are required. • Total score based on your reading, research, and evaluation.
Compliance Checking • Critical, essential component of evaluation process. • Individual vs. Company/Organization • Violations • News Items • Secretaries Perspective • Bottom Line: Provide all information with your evaluation materials.
Tips For Effectively Managing the Process • Individual, preliminary review of nominations. • First meeting - to discuss all proposals and scoring methodology. • Individual and team work to research, discuss, and score nominations. • Discussion of proposals and development of a prioritized list of recommended winners.
USING CRITERIA TO RATE PROPOSALS • Criteria don’t apply well to all categories. • Differences balance out • Minor revisions should improve applicability • Flexibility for different types or sizes of projects within a category. • Use bullets as guidance for scoring each criterion.
Team Leader Responsibilities • Sets a schedule, including timeline, deadlines, and meetings. • Leads discussion of reviews (meetings or conference calls). • Checks with individual team members to gauge progress. • Assists as needed. • Ensures that compliance contact checks are done. • Provides a prioritized list to the agency leads – not all projects can, or should, be winners. • Liaison to agency leads. • Coordinates and ensures materials are delivered to agency leads.

Schedule • Evaluations due Tuesday, July 31, 2007 to Andrea at Cal/EPA. • Second-level review in August. • Finalists reviewed by Agency Secretaries mid- September. • Governor’s Office review and winner determination. • Winners notified by October 1, 2007. • Ceremony November 20, 2007.
