2. Background • Benjamin Franklin was born January 17, 1706 in Boston Massachusetts. • Benjamin mother name was Abiah and his father name was Josiah. • Ben was the eighth child in his family of ten. • Josiah had plans for Ben to become a clergy, so he sent him to grammar school. • Ben learned how to read and write but he was not good with arithmetic so his father took him out of school.

3. Background • Ben began to work at his father candle and soap business. • By the age of twelve Ben became a apprentice in his brother James printing office. • Ben loved to read, he taught him self the basic swimming strokes after reading a book about swimming. • He built wooden paddles for his arms and feet to help him swim faster.

4. He used used a kite in the breeze to pull him making it easier for him to swim. • Ben also loved to right but no one payed him any attention because he was just a young boy. • Ben wrote secretly, using the name silence dogwood and slipped his stories under the door of his brothers print shop. • His brother published the stories in his newspaper and everyone loved to read them, but when James found out Ben wrote the stories he was angry and there relationship was never the same.
