  1. livestock live talks new series of ILRI-hosted monthly seminars NEW ! • Why? • Seminars are a crucial instrument to unlock the power of our many 'conversations' (within research groups, with our partners, with those we would like to partner, with our donors, with the public) and, through regular distillations of a selection of those conversations, help take ILRI to the next level as a convener, thought leader, and results-oriented research producer. • livestock live talks • These regular seminars aim to, increase awareness of ILRI staff and partners of research topics of importance to ILRI, including the wider research context, and to provide a space and platform for conversations. • How does it work? • livestock live talks  will be held monthly, usually on the last Wednesday of the month, between3 and 4pm. They will be run from Nairobi, Addis and later from other ILRI offices, with access to all other ILRI offices (and partners physically present on the ILRI premises) via WebEx; they will be facilitated (in Addis and Nairobi) to ensure strong participation; they will be systematically promoted in various channels and documented on the ILRI Yammer and through a summary blog post. • livestock live talks will take two forms: • 20 minutes of presentation followed by 40+ minutes of facilitated conversations cum debates cum responses • 40-minute lectures followed by 20 minutes of questions and answers • The seminars can be lead by one or more people • The list of planned seminars and other seminar ideas is available at:  • ilriseminars.wikispaces.com/Upcoming+seminars FEED THE FUTURE Using crop by-products to intensify and sustain food production Led by Michael Blümmel, ILRI-India animal nutritionist Why do crop by-products matter so much?
