Physical Science Lesson PlansDecember 12, 2011 OPENING: Students select a sport and discuss the different ways work is done in that sport and estimate how much work is done in an average game. EQ: What is the difference between work and power? GPS:S8P3c. Demonstrate the effect of simple machines (level, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, screw, and wheel and axis) on work. S8P5.c Demonstrate the effect of simple machines on work. WORK SESSION: Activity on Simple Machine using technology: (eggheads.org) Explore the house and garage detailing characteristics of simple machines. Students will go to the compass lab and complete this activity. CLOSING: Students create a concept map using the vocabulary words HOMEWORK:NONE

GPS:SS8CG1- The student will describe the role of citizens under Georgia’s constitution. SS8CG2-The student will analyze the role of the legislative branch in Georgia state government SS8CG3- The student will analyze the role of the executive branch in Georgia state government SS8CG4-The student will analyze the role of the judicial branch in Georgia state-government. WORK SESSION: State Government Role Play: Divide the class into groups to represent the Court System, House of Representative and Senate. The students will write proposals, Veto or Pass Bills etc… CLOSING: Trace the steps in the legislative process for a bill to become a law. HOMEWORK: NONE

Demonstrate the effect of simple machines (level, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, screw, and wheel and axis) on work. S8P5.c Demonstrate the effect of simple machines on work. WORK SESSION:Students will complete Checkpoint testing (two test total of 40 items) After Testing: Graphic Organizer and other activities showing understanding of Simple Machines. CLOSING: Show students a selection of pictures of familiar objects that represent simple machines, and they are to explain how each of the objects can be used to make work easier. HOMEWORK:Complete all work not completed in class

WORK SESSION: Grade Recovery: Students will be allowed time to complete missing assignments for Science. The student will be given a list of missing work so that the work can be completed. Explain Performance task to be completed on Tuesday in the Media Center. CLOSING: Students write a story that incorporates six simple or compound machines HOMEWORK:NONE
