  2. Welcome to the First Year Program The objective of the First-Year Program is to help first-year, full-time students make a successful transition into college life.

  3. How does the FYP work? T • One-semester program for first-time, full-time students • Includes FYI 100, a single fall semester 3-credit class • Provides instructions in both, academic and survival skills

  4. Why to join us? • To give back to the Eastern Community • To gain leadership skills • To give new students the benefit of your experience • To gain a sense of responsibility and organization “Mentor: Someone whose hindsight can become your foresight” ~Unknown

  5. Peer Mentor Role As Peer mentors in the First-Year Program you have the unique opportunity to potentially change someone’s life.

  6. Requirements If you will be at least a sophomore (greater than 29 credits) in Fall 2012, have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or above and possess a strong interest in helping others, this is the program for you!

  7. To keep in mind! • General Information: • You must enroll in FYR 314: This is a 2-credit course held during the fall semester. Mentors must also attend all FYI 100 classes, and act as a role model for the students in the First-Year Program. • Each peer mentor will receive a letter grade for the FYR 314 course. • You must attend formal training sessions. All FYR 314 Classes are on Mondays and Begin at 7 PM and End at 9 PM.

  8. Responsibilities • Peer Mentor’s Course Responsibilities: • Attend one FYR 100 class for a continuous 50 minutes each week. • Speak to his or her class every week. • Act as a role model for student behavior. • Participate in the field trip and at least one other co-curricular activity with his or her students.  • Meet with students outside of the class, either one-on-one or in small groups.
