  1. EMPLOYMENT NEEDS OF THE UNEMPLOYED – Finding a job

  2. NEW DEAL is a scheme used by the National Government to help the unemployed back into work.

  3. New Deal was introduced in 1998 by the Labour Government as a strategy to get people off benefits and into work. In October 2009 it was replaced by Flexible New Deal (not in all areas however). How does New Deal help the Unemployed? It gives the unemployed the opportunity to develop the skills and experience that employers want so they can find lasting, worthwhile jobs.

  4. How does New Deal help the Government and Employers? New Deal helps the Government and employers by improving the overall skills base of the British workforce. It also helps employers whose businesses are suffering from staff shortages.

  5. HOW DOES NEW DEAL WORK? If you are claiming JSA, after a set period of time you will have to take part in New Deal or lose your benefits. This is after : • 6 months if you are between 18 & 24 • 18 months if you are over 25

  6. Everyone on New Deal gets a personal adviser who is their point of contact throughout the programme. The personal adviser takes time to understand the customer, their experiences, interests and goals, so a plan can be prepared to find a suitable job.

  7. There are different New Deal programmes depending on someone’s circumstances or skills. Disabled people

  8. Lone parents partners
