HOSA Competitive Events Advisor Role Start Early - select events in the fall and not two weeks before the conference. Consider the Odds – Some events have fewer competitors Do HOSA in the Classroom – UseHOSA events to support classroom instruction. Understand the Big Picture – The HOSA competitive program is about excellence in learning. √ Raise the bar for your students. √ Help each feel as though they have accomplished something. "If they can make penicillin out of moldy bread, they can sure make something out of you."
HOSA Competitive Events Advisor Role Play Fair – Set an ethical example for your students by following all the rules Make the Skill of HOSA Members Your Responsibility Make the Event Materials of HOSA Members Your Responsibility – Practice – Study, study, study. Practice, practice, practice. Follow the Guidelines – practice with event rating sheets. BE SURE that before you take any student to competition that he/she has the information to perform competently.. To ask a student to compete in an event where they clearly have not understood the requirements is extremely unfair to the student.
HOSA ADVISORS RESPONSIBILITIES • Study the HOSA Competitive Events and competition Guidelines, updates, and highlights • Make it fun and a learning opportunity for students. • Review individual competition specifics through the website ‘www.hosa.org’. • Please download and print instructions-rating sheets- for your reference and to distribute to your students. • Determine supplies and equipment needed for your student to compete.
