Words to Live By Tania Henderson
Introduction • I decided that because the theme of this portion of the seminar is called Words to Live By I thought it would be interesting if we tried to create our own words to live by • One interesting way in which I thought that we could do this was through the creation of poems that express what we our passionate about
Introduction 2 • Lots of poets have found that what fascinates and inspires them as people have come through writing poetry • Through doing this they have been able to find the words that truly speak to themand become the words that they have lived by
Robert Frost • An example of this is one of my favorite poets Robert Frost • He is a poet that found a lot of inspiration in the natural world, and through his poems tried to use it to express what he thought and felt about his life
Robert Frost Poem- The Road Not Taken • Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, • And sorry I could not travel both • And be one traveler, long I stood • And looked down one as far as I could • To where it bent in the undergrowth; • Then took the other, as just as fair, • And having perhaps the better claim • Because it was grassy and wanted wear, • Though as for that the passing there • Had worn them really about the same, • And both that morning equally lay • In leaves no step had trodden black. • Oh, I marked the first for another day! • Yet knowing how way leads on to way • I doubted if I should ever come back. • I shall be telling this with a sigh • Somewhere ages and ages hence: • Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, • I took the one less traveled by, • And that has made all the difference. • Robert Frost
My Interpretation • What I really like about this poem, is that it kind of a reflection on how the author feels about the choices he made in his life. • So, After reading this poem, I thought it would be nice to try and see if we can come up with some of our own words of wisdom on teaching • Write about something or maybe an event that inspired you. • This can be either in the form of a poem or if you want prose
