  4. PTSA Membership Drive • $6.00 per person • Going on through October 31st • All fund generated go back to the students and our school! • Awesome way to get involved in your child’s school!

  5. 1:1 Rollout Digital Learning Program This year, every third through fifth grade student in the district will receive an iPad for his or her educational use during the school year. These devices will increase students’ engagement in the classroom with the integration of digital learning by our teachers. 1:1 Rollout Student Benefits of the Santee School District 1:1 iPad Program Include: ·     Providing instant access to up-to-date information and      current events as well as digital books and multimedia      resources ·     Fostering critical thinking skills to do research that      encourages proactive learning  ·     Strengthening communication skills and literacy ·     Availability of multiple collaboration tools ·     Individualizing learning for each student ·     Preparing students for high school and college work ·     Expanding students' working knowledge of effective      methods to problem solve and complete tasks  All students will have access to a standard suite of apps that will be used in the classroom for their education.

  7. BINDERS & FOLDERS • BINDERS: • Contain their Planners • Go home every night • Contain their homework • Contain any flyers or handouts • ONGOING WORK FOLDERS: • Stay at school • Contain all unfinished work for the week • Students will use any free time to complete assignments

HOMEWORK • All assignments are written in their planners EVERY DAY! • Also available on my website for your review under “Weekly Homework Calendar” tab. • Homework is to be done at home and brought in the following day unless otherwise specified. • May include unfinished work from the day. • Looks different this year due to transition to Common Core.

  9. Discovering Literature • Our year goal: 40 books per student • They can read any book they want as long as it is grade-level appropriate. • Document their progress with their Reading Log and Progression Chart • Comprehension check through journal responses • Book Presentations – every 7 weeks

  10. Common Core Transition Educational standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students, from kindergarten through high school. The California Department of Education helps schools make sure that all students are meeting the standards.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES • PARTY JAR • When the jar is filled, we will get a party on the next non-compliant food day! • STEP cards • Implemented in the 5th and 6th grade • STEPs expire after 5 days, full card = parent signature • STEP levels: • 1. Warning • 2. Missed Recess/Lunch Recess • 3. Parent Contact • 4. Vice Principal’s Office • 5. Suspension

District Wellness Policy • We love to celebrate birthdays, but if you are planning on bringing in something for your child to share with the class, it needs to be non-food items or healthy snacks.
