  2. AN OVERVIEW Well, just like any other medical procedure brain surgery is a medical course of action that involves the repair of structural problems of the brain. Some conditions that require brain surgery are brain stroke, brain cancer, hydrocephalus, abnormal blood vessels, blood clots, epilepsy, nerve damage, and more. Do you know cardiovascular procedures can cause brain stroke too? CE marked cerebral protection devices are used to protect the brain during cardiac procedures. Clearly, brain surgery is a complicated medical procedure. In fact, the type of surgery done relies on the condition of the patient.

  3. Let’s talk about some types of brain surgery: • Biopsy • Craniotomy • Minimally Invasive Neuroendoscopy

  4. Biopsy A biopsy is used to remove a tumor or small brain tissue to examine under a microscope. In this procedure, a small incision is done in the skull.

  5. Craniotomy This medical procedure involves creating a hole and an incision in the scalp to treat the brain. This is an open brain surgery that is used to clip off an aneurysm, remove tumors, remove abnormal tissue, drain blood from infection, and more.

  6. Minimally Invasive Neuroendoscopy This is another type of brain surgery in which a neuroendoscope is used to remove a tumor from the brain. This is a minimally invasive surgery in which a small hole is created in the skull to access the brain for surgery.

  7. What are the risks of brain surgery? Honestly, all the brain surgeries carry risk. Some of them are: • Stroke • memory problems • impaired speech, coordination, vision, or balance • Coma • Brain Swelling • Blood Clotting • Allergic Reaction to Anaesthesia • Seizures
