  2. Distance learning • more & more students need e-learning courses • courses contain large elements (graphics, films, animations) • :=> VERY fast and reliable backbone network is needed

  3. Grid computing • several thousands of workstations located in classrooms • classrooms located across Poland • ~20% of processor time consumed by students • 80 % of processor time - possible use for parallel/grid calculations (simulations) • :=> VERY fast and reliable backbone network is needed

  4. Local needs • to be able to connect to libraries • to be able to search databases (including full text search) • to be able to exchange the data between students and their teachers • to be able to exchange the data between the academic teachers

  5. Local needs • to exchange the scientific data between the researchers • to allow the local resources for external scientific users • to allow the local resources for external students (diploma works etc) • to allow the local resources for external commercial users (databases, e-commerce...)
