  3. Introduction • Prior to 1994 • Struggle, liberation movement & international support • Inter. instruments, norms & stds. • 1996, the Constitutional mandate, & new imperatives • 10yr. Governance review process & Task Team to evaluate the C/R f/work

Achievements • Establishment of Provincial PPA Steering Committees in all Provinces • Establishment of 5 Children’s Units in Premier’s offices • Hosting various national / international workshops • Serving on various national committees dealing with children’s issues • Hosting international delegations at the Union Buildings • Produced various publications including the State of the Nations Children’s Report; End of Decade Report • Responsible for editing and publishing full page Comic strip on children’s rights in “Sowetan” over a period of 10 weeks • Initiated, co-ordinated and funded children’s workshops in all Provinces (Rights and Responsibilities) • Produced various promotional material relating to children’s rights example posters, bookmarkers, stickers, playing cards, CD’s, key rings, banners

Achievements • Developed a Child Rights’ Media Code • Co-ordinated voting process of 4 million children in SA • Responsible for co-ordinating activities of government departments during child protection week; Early Childhood Development Week; Water week; Child Injury Protection Week; Minerals and Energy week • Presented SA’s end decade report to the UN General Assembly • Responsible for the co-ordination and presentation of SA’s Country report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child • Responsible for hosting National and International children’s days • Initiated the development of a Monitoring and Evaluation Framework with indicators • Presentations and various launches held in parliament in conjunction with the JMC since 2002 • Part of the team drafting the ten year review report on Gender, Disability and Children’s Rights (GDC) considerations to be launched once finalised
