Requirements & Constraints Requirements: • Dual core processor [computer does not heat up and thus can be left on for a long period of time] • Built in microphone and webcam [can communicate with friends and family] Computer should be portable therefore it must be a LAPTOP [this allows the student to carry it wherever he or she pleases] • The laptop should weigh a certain amount [preferably lightweight] • Battery Performance [the greater, the better it is] The amount of memory that can be stored • Sound Card [allows one to store quality music] and video card [good graphics when playing games online] • Need a form of Word, PowerPoint, excel and etc [ all these programs will be used repetively in University] • Need a form of anti- virus and anti- spyware to protect computer • Should buy brand software [with this, the company provides updates frequently] Constraints: • My budget is $1000.00 including taxes • The laptop or desktop should function within a time span of two years. • Find the appropriate computer for university

  4. Recommendations Desktop or laptop? • I would recommend the Acer laptop for university students. • A laptop is better than a desktop. This allows students to carry their laptop to classes. 5 Quantitative Reasons • Dual Processor • Built in Stereo Speakers [2.0 W] • Built in web camera and microphone • Memory Types: SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO/xD • Display Screen: 15.6“ 5 Qualitative Reasons • Acer is relatively a good brand. • The laptop has the fundamental necessities in a computer required for an University student. • The Acer Laptop has a fair price. Realistically, the price is right in the ball park for students. This is something they can ACTUALLY afford. • The Acer Laptop comes in two colours: black or white. • If for some reason, if the laptop crashes, there is a one year warranty on its manufacturing parts and hardware. However the department store does not cover any physical damages.
