  6. Survey Results Each year, California State PTA conducts a survey of local unit leaders.

  8. #1-Bridge to Parent Involvement • Involve all groups in school community • Provide a welcoming atmosphere • Be honest about job descriptions and time commitments • Match skills to volunteer

  9. Bridge to Parent Involvement cont. • What’s in it for my child? • Accommodate working parents • Goals are attractive to volunteers • Show thanks and gratitude • Use plentiful resources

  10. Family School Partnership Act Law (Labor Code Section 230.8) states: 40 Hour per week employees are entitled to 40 hours per year to attend conferences/events at their child’s school without losing their job

  11. #2-Create Awareness of Value of PTA • Advocacy; voice for children • History of PTA is important • Toot your own horn • Create a face in the community

  12. #3-Managing PTA & Board Members • Handle conflict • “weaveahs” • Be inclusive and open to new ideas • Expectations and ground rules • Communicate • Training
