We have learned about recreation on the Coosa River as part of our School Wide Project Based Learning about Childersburg.   7. History Insert Artifact Picture Here The Coosa River is made up of seven lakes. Coosa is the name of an Indian town. The Coosa River is 285 miles long or 459 kilometers long. It starts in Rome, GA and ends at the Tallapoosa River near Wetumpka, AL. The exact meaning is unknown, But it may have Come from the Choctaw Kush, meaning cane or canebrake. Lay Lake is the Lake closest to Childersburg. Back to History

  8. Geocaching Insert Artifact Picture Here Geocaching is a fun outdoor sport. For people of all age’s. It requires searching Climbing and focusing. It is like a high tech treasure hunt or a game of hide and seek. The things that you will need to do this sport is a GPS, Food and water and a backpack. Back to Geocaching

  9. Fishing is an outdoor sport for people of all ages. It was a favorite outdoor sport since 1971. The small Mouth Bass is native to the Coosa River. You can fish for many fish such as a Catfish, Bass, crappie and bream. Although the majority of fish are caught in water 6 feet deep or less, master anglers use an Adjustable float to present bait at different depths until fish are located. A GPS is a portable service that you can take anywhere. It connects with the 24 satellites that are circling the Earth to tell you exactly where you are. GPS stands for Global Positioning System.
