1. Pesticide Sales and Distribution in Washington State

2. Basic Parameters: Licensing is required for the sale or distribution of any non-home & garden pesticide. This includes,
Federal Restricted Use Pesticides,
WA State designated RUPs for the protection of water bodies and groundwater, and
General Use Pesticides (defined as product used in agricultural and industrial locations. Based on site boundaries, % of active ingredient(s) et al.
3. WA State RUP List All Federal RUPs
Pesticides under the following common chemical names:
Atrazine, bromacil, DCPA, disulfoton, diruon, hexazione, metolachlor, metribuzin, picloram, prometon, simazine and tebuthiuron.
4. Licensing Requirements Dealer Manager (minimum of one per physical sales outlet)
WSDA administered
closed book exam (70%)
$25 Annual Fee
5-year recertification cycle
40 credit hours or retest
5. Licensing Requirements Pesticide Dealer License (endorsement on the Master Business License)
WDOL administered
business must have licensed Dealer Manager before WDOL license is issued
$50 annual fee
6. Sales Verification The Dealer Manager, on site during any transaction, must verify that the purchaser of any Federal or State RUP,
has a current, valid license
with the appropriate category endorsements
7. Sales Verification WSDA has issued all licensees a durable plastic ID card

Dealer Manager can verify the license status by going on-line at,

or by
Calling directly to regional offices or toll free at 877-301-4555
9. Record Keeping
License pesticide dealers must,
keep records on the distribution of all non-home and garden pesticides
records must be maintained for a period of seven years
10. Record Keeping
RUP sales:
full name and address of certified applicator
full name and address of authorized agent (if applicable)
brand, specific pesticide name and EPA registration number of pesticide distributed
11. Record Keeping
RUP sales (cont.):
number of pounds or gallons…
date of distribution
certified applicator’s License number, and
crop or site to which the pesticide will be applied

General Use sales:
full name and address of purchaser
brand, specific pesticide name and EPA registration number of pesticide distributed
