Football – Page 1 MENU Fantasy football is an interactive competition in which people manage professional football players versus one another as general managers of a pseudo-football team. The players that an individual is able to manage are professional American football players in the NFL. The different actions people are able to make are drafting, trading, adding/dropping players, and changing rosters. Due to the growth of the Internet, fantasy football has increased in popularity.
Football – Page 2 • Beginning in 1962, Fantasy Football has become the most important marketing tool for the NFL. It is estimated that over 19 million people compete in fantasy football leagues today. There is even a national television show centered around fantasy today named “ The League.”
Football – Page 3League Types • Head to Head • In head to head leagues, a team matches up versus a different team each week. Similar to the NFL, the teams with the best records advance to the playoffs to compete for the title. • Total Points • Total points leagues accumulate points and award the title to the highest scoring team come season end. • Dynasty Leagues • A dynasty or “keeper” league is where you retain most of your team from year to year. • Auction • My personal favorite, auction leagues require the competitors to bid on players using fake money during the draft. This is more exciting than the snake draft.
Football – Page 4Rosters MENU • Most fantasy leagues are similar in what positions they allow players to fill. My league for instance has 2 Quarterback slots, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Flex Spot( choice between a third Running back or receiver). One TE is allowed, as well as a choice of one NFL team’s defense and special teams. Finally, the most useless spot on the fantasy roster is the kicker. Think of the kicker like bonus points, as you have no way to predict how they will do.
Basketball – Page 1 MENU • Fantasy basketball was inspired by fantasy baseball. It was originally played by keeping track of stats during games, but became widely popular with the Internet. • There are many rule and scoring variations in fantasy basketball, which are defined on the next page…
Basketball – Page 2 Scoring Variations Point values Point in fantasy basketball are accumulated based off of your drafted player’s rebounds, blocks, assists, steals and points. Normally players will get 1 point for any of the stats above. • Rotisserie (ROTO) • The points are added up come season end, and the winner in each stat category (points, blocks, etc.) is awarded a point value based off their rank. • Head to Head • Teams match up each week, and the team with the most points come the end of the week gets the win.
Basketball – Page 3 MENU • Fantasy basketball requires a little more attention than football. Players in the NBA play multiple games a week and this requires the fantasy owner to check his team every day through the week.
Baseball MENU • Fantasy baseball is a game where participants manage an imaginary roster of real Major League baseball players. The participants compete against one another using those players' real life statistics to score points. It is one of the most commonly played fantasy sports games, and is one of the most difficult and time-intensive due to the 162-game season of the MLB and the inconsistency of players.
Baseball – Page 2 • The most common scoring system in fantasy baseball is known as “Rotisserie”. It is similar to the rotisserie scoring system in basketball. • Scoring in fantasy baseball is determined by batting average, home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, winds, saves, ERA and this is defined as a 4x4 league. 4 hitting stats versus 4 pitching stats.
Baseball – Page 3 MENU • Fantasy baseball if one if not the oldest of the four fantasy sports. It began in 1961 by an IBM employee. It only kept growing from there and blew up in popularity with the internet.
Soccer – Page 1 MENU • Fantasy football is a game in which participants assemble an imaginary team of real life footballers and score points based on those players' actual statistical performance or their perceived contribution on the field of play. Usually players are selected from one specific division in a particular country, although there are many variations. The original game was created by Andrew Wainstein in England in 1991, when he set up Fantasy League Ltd after seeing the success of American fantasy sports games in the 1980s. Fantasy football has evolved in recent years from a simple recreational activity into a significant business due to exposure via the internet
Soccer – Page 2 Teams Point Scoring Playing in a match Scoring a goal Making an assist Keeping a clean sheet( no cards) Saving a penalty Goalkeeper saves 3 shots or more • Most fantasy football leagues ask you to select 11 players within your price budget. Normal player slots include 1 goalkeeper, 4 defenders, 4 or 3 midfielders and 2 or 3 forwards.
Soccer – Page 3 MENU • One aspect of fantasy soccer I enjoy, is that not just one team can have a player. When a player is selected during the draft, they are not removed. Each team could possibly have the same roster. It is nice to avoid missing out on your favorite players.
