Process • SA geospatial team and GCPO geomatics team • GCPO and SA took the lead on SE CPA project because they were the first staffed SE LCCs • Determine what we want the CPA to do • Target audiences • Key functionalities
Process • SA geospatial team and GCPO geomatics team • GCPO and SA took the lead on SE CPA project because they were the first staffed SE LCCs • Determine what we want the CPA to do • Target audiences • Key functionalities • Joint GCPO/SA sub team was created • Team includes people with technical expertise and from the target audience
Process • Joint GCPO/SA sub team • Evaluate existing platforms to see if one (or more) can meet our need • Suggest existing platforms • Review existing platforms • Based on target audiences and key functionalities created by the larger teams • Further flesh out technical and key functionality issues
Process • Why did this Sub team decided to explore existing platforms? • Benefit from all the trial/error they have already experienced • Allow us to focus spending on making our CPA user friendly • Allow us to focus spending on development of additional tools/functionality • Team holds the right to go another way if no existing platforms worked. However, through the review we found that there are platforms that are close enough to meeting our need that we can build with them
Process • Review of existing platforms • Score card • Three platforms were the best matches to our need • Webinars • Databasin • LC Map • Landscope • ESRI?
Process • Members with technical focus had further calls and discussion • Building off of the considerations in the score card, generated additional technical considerations and requirements • Recommendation to bring back to the joint sub team • Reached out to other SE LCCs • Want to encourage involvement of other SE LCCs from this point forward • On this call the team will make a recommendation on how to proceed with our CPA • The formal recommendation will be taken to the GCPO, SA and Bill Uihlein who is currently coordinating efforts between LCCs across the SE • Questions/discussion about process
Tech Group Recommendation • Review of existing platforms • Score card • Three platforms were the best matches to our need • Webinars • Databasin • LC Map • Landscope • Building off of the considerations in the score card, generated additional technical considerations and requirements • Recommendation to bring back to the joint sub team
Tech Group Recommendation # 1 • Pilot Project • Combination of LC Map and Databasin • Two reasons why tech group recommended to not pursue LandScope • Doesn’t currently consume data from outside web services • Custom page didn’t fit our idea of a custom portal/node • Use pilot project as an opportunity to further refine and prioritize our functionality needs • Discussion • Joint Sub Team Decision
Tech Group Recommendation # 2 • Split (and expand) into two teams during pilot project • Small “Coordination Team” continues to oversee progress • User experience team • A member from the SA will be the key contact but with members from any SE LCC that want to participate • Focuses on user testing, making the CPA intuitive for non technical users • Advanced Applications • A member of the GCPO will be the key contact but with members from any SE LCC that want to participate • Focus on development of additional technical tools and functionality • Discussion • Joint Sub Team Decision
Additional Details • How many nodes/portals should we include in the pilot project? • Three nodes • SE node – focused on entire SE with relevant spatial data that spans the entire region • SA node – contains relevant spatial data that is either region wide or specific to the SA • GCPO - contains relevant spatial data that is either region wide or specific to the GCPO • More than three nodes • Additional nodes for other SE LCCs • Discussion • Joint Sub Team Decision
