  4. University Autonomy in Cambodia? • Education System in Cambodia • Modern higher education in Cambodia is relatively recent development (Pit and David, 2004). • First modern university, the Royal University of Phnom Penh was established

University Autonomy in Cambodia? • Until 1990s, state remained the only major provider of the modern and almost free higher education service in the country • After establishment of Paris peace agreement in the year 1991 the situation began to change • The first private higher education institution was established in the year 1997.
